Seven Beliefs You Need To Succeed by Tony Robbins on MAPPINGTHETERRITORY

"You are now at a crossroads. Forget your past. Who are you now?"

Society has many beliefs about success. Some are factual. Others are bullshit. The truth is, our misconceptions make it difficult to adopt those thought processes that have proven to be crucial in leading a more fulfilled life. The only barrier you face is yourself.

It’s simple to say that you have a particular dream or goal - but are your thoughts contradicting your vision? We are not talking about general personality traits or attributes, but rather which belief systems would be most beneficial in facilitating the desired outcome.

Anthony Robbins has been a huge influence in defining these projections for both myself and many other successful individuals across the globe. His unique style of introspection serves as a guide to reframing your beliefs, resulting in a more positive mental map.

1.  EVERYTHING HAPPENS FOR A REASON AND A PURPOSE.

Immediately your mind may jump to a relative that has passed away from an illness - or your classmate that was killed by a drunk driver. I’ll admit, these situations are unfortunate and out of life’s sphere of control. Remember, we are talking solely about your success here.

These are the beliefs that will ultimately define your results. Even if something doesn’t turn out how you wanted, accept it and imagine the possibilities of development. What did you learn? How do you think you can improve the situation, going forward?

2.  THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS FAILURE, ONLY RESULTS.

Many times, we have a tendency to look at the negative aspect of every failure. The simple fact is: it will remain a failure regardless of the way we perceive it. So, why not look at it in a more positive manner and use it as a learning experience - rather than a constant reminder of the detriment it’s caused? Learn to flip the script.

Never look at failure as a result that you did not want. You should instead look at it as a reference point. What did you gain?

3.  WHATEVER HAPPENS, TAKE RESPONSIBILITY.

Stop blaming others. Even if the situation was out of your hands, dig deep and find a way you could have acted or thought differently. What would have led to a more beneficial resolution?

Successful people all believe that they alone create their own realities. You are responsible and only you can take care of it.

4.  IT IS NOT NECESSARY TO UNDERSTAND EVERYTHING TO USE IT.

How many times have you found yourself ready to take action, only to hesitate or procrastinate due to lack of knowledge or experience? On the contrary, how many success stories have you read about those who know very little about the logistics of their field or interest?

Sometimes, all it takes is the smallest step to propel you forward. If other people have done something, or you have tried it and it worked, then go out and do that. Do not spend tons of time analyzing it.

5.  PEOPLE ARE OUR GREATEST RESOURCE.

Your most powerful asset is your network - those you keep close to you. Leverage their strengths. If you lack confidence, consult with the most sociable and outgoing person you know. If you are working on a talent or skill, find an experienced mentor that you can confide in.

Take advantage of information that people are sharing. Learn from others who are already successful and apply that knowledge.

6.  WORK IS PLAY.

Find something you can takeaway from everything you commit to in life. I worked for a large call center for many years and still managed to find passion in the more menial tasks. It was a sudden realization that success is a complicated process, and not everything comes easy.

The one power you have is to make that shit fun. Set goals and create mental games to get you through the day. Try to envision how this will contribute to your overall fulfillment. Do whatever it takes to enjoy your work. No successful person hates what they do. Respect it.

7.  THERE IS NO ABIDING SUCCESS WITHOUT COMMITMENT.

There are many dreamers, but few who are willing to fully commit to the process of success. It’s never a smooth road. But with the proper tools and resources, it is one that you can easily navigate through. At some point, it is time to stop planning and start taking action.

Be ready to commit and completely submit to your vision. You must give it everything you have. You will be exhausted. There will be nights without sleep. But remember: the individuals who succeed are those who are willing to commit to their beliefs. Make it happen.
